Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII heads the top of the list as my all-time favorite RPG!

The struggles of Cloud and his friends against Sephiroth and Shin-Ra Inc. are both heart-warming and heart-breaking.
There are so many fun moments in this game. My favorite is Cloud's daring escapade as a woman!
But there are dark moments as well. Who can ever forget Sephiroth's anguish when he uncovers the secret behind his creation?
Cloud's confusion was a bit annoying until I found out what his problem is. After that, it's all perfectly understandable. First he's driven by the terrible bond between him and Sephiroth, and then he goes in search of his true identity, a goal he ultimately accomplishes with Tifa's help.
Speaking of Tifa...I think she and Cloud make a perfect couple. Her devotion to her childhood friend really touched my heart. Aeris was never an issue with me, because I could plainly see that Cloud and Tifa were meant for each other. (Sigh)
There's not much I don't like about FFVII. Something I absolutely despise are those polygonal characters that are seen far too often. I've also got a problem with the Materia System, but that's merely the headache I get when choosing among the vast quantity of Materia that's available.
One feature I really like is the music. Here's some examples.

And now for a word about Shin-Ra Inc.
Despicable!
Yes, that's exactly how I feel about Rufus, Scarlet, Heidegger and those rascals, the Turks. I always feel like jumping with joy when Rufus gets blown away by Diamond Weapon. (By the way...Have you noticed that it's Shinra in the dialogue boxes, but Shin-Ra on the all the logos you see in the background?) I heard somewhere that Shin-Ra means "great evil" in ancient Egyptian. A perfect choice in my humble opinion!
